Welcome to the New Age!

Blog 6
There are deep changes taking place in the new world of Wikinomics. We are entering an age were people can participate in economics like never before. In order to grow as a business you need collaboration, to create value, and to have a competitive advantage against other businesses by reaching out to all sorts of contacts. Today, mass collaboration means everything. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and more use mass collaboration to gain millions of followers. From these sites they can use the followers to sell products or to promote other companies. For example how many times have you logged into your Facebook and saw an add on your right side screen? I have many times. You may or may not know that when you click those ads you are apart of the collaboration. You are the tool a person who allows the ad on the side needs to earn a paycheck. Each time you click an ad on the internet it generally means that someone just made a few cents off of your click. This is a new low cost effective way for companies to advertise and to gain new customers.

In the new world of mass collaboration there are millions of people who use blogs, Facebook, and other sites to share their information all over the web. Within seconds we can upload our interest, comments, and personal opinions for the world to see. This way of sharing information from person to person publicly is very valuable to companies who are looking to make money. Lets think, if say a company like Coke would like to sell more product what they would need to do is run an ad on everyone's Facebook page, or they could have a contest asking people to like their page to win free Coke. When a company can use social media to get the marketing out to millions, they have made it easier on themselves and easier on the customer as well, who can now with a click of a button order any product they would like online.

Online ordering is another way our new age technology can be used to make life a whole lot simpler. The days of waiting in long lines to get what you want are over. If you know what product you need the easiest way to get it without dealing with other people is to just order it through an online vendor. If you're not sure you will like the product the internet has an answer for that too. Just research the product through Wikipedia or Google it. You will be able to look at product reviews from other's who have tried the product before. It is truly amazing how far we have come in using the web as one of, if not the most amazing tool every invented.

Web 2.0 is referred to as the living web, because it connects billions of people everyday. To succeed today, new mass communications must become apart of every leader's playbook. This is because new mass collaboration has changed how companies compete by doing certain things the right way.  It is important for a company to open its doors and to think globally while acting locally. Openness is in connection with freedom, flexibility and engagement.

I would say that Web 2.0 overall has made it easier for companies to find new clients. In my personal life I enjoy being able to share trends with my friends and family. I like that through sites such as LinkedIn it is easier to make the connections needed to find a new job, catch up with old friends, and to share success stories with one another. It is hard for me to think of a time before Myspace, Facebook and YouTube. It is my world, the web can define who you are to someone who has never met you in person, and it can also be an outlet when you are bored, or need a friend to talk to. Web 2.0 provides billions of people with tools that they can learn with, connect with, and fall in love with!
